2006 05 17 Smoke Creek Desert NV

This is to be a 5 night trip, I think, but today I just did not have the energy to get it together to be gone starting this morning. I did manage to get things together enough for a long day trip into northwest Nevada, a beautiful and remote part of the state. I have been here many times and if you have seen previous trip pages you have seen a lot of material from this part of the state. Pyramid Lake and the Smoke Creek and Black Rock Deserts are in this part of the state. I have photographed all of those places and have nothing new this time, but I am sure I will again soon.

Sempra was working on plans to build a large coal fired power plant northwest of Gerlach, but appears to have given up on it. Good.

The Black Rock Desert is the host every year to Burning Man.

Today I did shoot a lot of junk in the desert at a fine new bootleg dump I discovered. The usual shot up cars, shot up TV sets, discarded motorcycles, and rusting junk of all kinds. Good stuff.

I also did some poking around in the UP rail yard in Gerlach.

On the way back south on 447 there were several miles long stretches of these bugs. All marching south .. you could see waves of them in the sage. I think they are Nevada sage grasshoppers. (Ain't Google grand?)
